European Climate Foundation (ECF)
To promote climate and energy policies that greatly reduce greenhouse gas emissions and to help Europe play a stronger international leadership role to mitigate climate change. The ECF, based in the Netherlands, was set up by a group of five foundations, including Oak Foundation, with the purpose of filling a gap in climate and energy activity in Europe. Within one year, it has grown to be Europe’s largest strategic grant-making organisation for climate change and aims to be recognised as the leading-edge coordinator of advocacy for low carbon productivity in Europe. USD 1,700,000 (Over three years)
-
Green Tech Action Fund
To strengthen the impact of the climate bill in the US while avoiding technological lock-in, particularly in terms of coal-fired power generation. The project aims to enhance the contribution of the bill to a successful outcome in UNFCCC negotiations, particularly in terms of financing for developing countries and avoiding any inconsistencies and potential deal breakers. Other activities include strengthening the voice of progressive business in the climate debate, supporting innovative public mobilisation techniques and increasing accountability by publicising acts of both political leadership and obstruction. USD 4,750,000
-
Greenpeace International
To avert the disastrous effects of climate change by limiting the global mean temperature rise to below two degrees Celsius. While awareness of climate change has grown dramatically in recent years, the need for real action is urgent to prevent the effects of irreversible climate damage in the future. The challenge is to translate the urgency into action. Greenpeace based in the Netherlands will initiate the necessary action by governments, industry and individuals. USD 172,890 (Over two years)
-
WWF International
To convince key heads of state and government of the urgency to strike a deal to produce a successor agreement to the Kyoto Protocol in Copenhagen in December 2009. This will be achieved by exerting public campaign pressure and through targeted policy/advocacy work during preparations for the 2009 and 2010 G8 and G8+5 meetings, which have been scheduled in Italy and Canada. USD 735,030 (Over two years)
